Knowing what type of acne you are dealing with can be important, since it can really help you to figure out the best treatment for your acne needs.
Type #1 – Cysts – The worst type of acne out there is cysts. These are very large bumps that are usually hard and underneath the skin. However, the usually are infected and inflamed, which can make then quite painful. While this type of acne is not as common as other types, many people do deal with it and it definitely needs some medical attention to find the right treatment options.
Type #2 – Nodules – Nodules are a bit like cysts, although they are smaller and not as infected. They are also bumps under the skin that are fairly large and hard. However, they are not as difficult to deal with as cysts can be.
Type #3 – Blackheads – Blackheads are a type of acne that is caused by pores that are only part blocked. They can definitely look unsightly, but the reason they appear to be black is not because of dirt. This color is actually due to the melanin pigment that is there in the dead skin cells.
Type #4 – Whiteheads – You’ll find that whiteheads are a type of acne that are caused by pores that are totally blocked. They have a white appearance on top, which is where they get their name. However, the white appearance is actually caused by bacteria on the inside that causes the sebum to become a type of fatty acid that appears white.
Type #5 – Papules – A papule is a bump or spot that is small, tender, and usually red. While it is not really classified as a pimple, they can develop into them.
Type #6 – Pustules – This is the type of acne that is commonly known as a pimple. They are spots that are larger than papules, but they are still red and they usually are inflamed and contain pus inside of them.
