When food enters your stomach, a valve called the lower esophageal sphincter opens to allow the food in. This valve normally remains closed so that partially digested food do not flow back up into your esophagus area.
However there are occasions when the sphincter does not remain closed. When this happens acid from the stomach can reflux or flow back into the esophagus. This is what causes Acid Reflux Diet.
Doctors abbreviate the condition to acid reflux disease. Although the real Causes of GERD has not yet been found, it is thought that consuming the wrong foods could be to blame, so its important to follow a healthy Gerd Diet, as large meals and fast food can also overload the stomachs ability to digest food adequately.
It is never wise to eat large amounts at is puts a substantial strain on the stomach muscles which creates pressure within the gut itself. Something has to give; this is usually the acid which returns back up the esophagus creating that acid reflux burn. By consuming less food at one go should stop the esophageal valve from opening and acid escaping into the esophagus causing further damage.
