The majority of people lead hectic lives today and for all too many of us exercise frequently takes second place to everything else that we have going on. But, when the majority of us are taking part in less and less physical activity while eating more and more prepared foods, fitting some exercise into our daily routine is becoming increasingly important. Therefore, if you find yourself falling into this category then here are 5 simple fitness techniques that you can slip into your working day.

1. The majority of people today pop out to lunch, often with a few of our co-workers, and often select far from healthy food options which we wash down with a large cup of coffee or two. A much better solution is to take a packed lunch and pop out for a walk (or even better for a run) pausing when you get tired to eat.

2. After most working days there are generally one or two programs on the television that I like to catch to help me to relax. Well, instead of stretching out on the couch try doing a few exercises and watching the television at the same time. This can be as simple as doing a few sit ups, back strengthening exercises or some light weight lifting. You could even set up your own home gym and watch your favorite program while using a treadmill or an exercise bicycle.

3. It is surprising just how coffee breaks eat into the day and if you make a note of how long you take for coffee breaks in a normal day you would almost certainly be amazed at how much time they all add up to. A good idea may be to roll these breaks up into just two longer breaks each day and use this time to take some exercise, even if it is simply a case of walking around your office building or climbing several flights of stairs. An additional benefit of this is that the endorphins which are produced by your body as a result of even a little bit of exercise will do a lot more to pick you up than your cup of coffee!

4. Most of us like to go out with friends and talk over the problems of the world but, instead of doing this in a coffee shop or bar, why not seek out an alternative venue and combine your social get together with a game of badminton, squash or even bowling.

5. Finally, you could even try a bit of housework. Okay, I can just imagine a lot of you throwing up your hands in horror but many forms of housework like cleaning the bathroom, scrubbing down the kitchen, mowing the lawn (without using your favorite ride-on lawn mower), and turning over the vegetable patch are all great forms of exercise and they won’t do the house any harm either.
