Why Dirt Has Nothing To Do With Blemishes
There is often a big misconception that acne blemishes such as pimples and zits are caused by dirty skin. What this usually leads to is aggressive over cleaning of the face which may not be helping you at all and only end up damaging the skin. What’s more, using heavy soaps and other cleansers excessively can leave residue on your face which can clog pores - the REAL cause of acne blemishes and breakouts.
When attempting to keep the skin clean or using any skin care product to avoid unsightly breakouts - think twice a day cleaning with a mild cleanser and above all think GENTLE.
acne skin care should be approached by treating the root cause: excess skin oil or sebum and the dead skin cells and makeup that get trapped in the pores as a result. Exfoliating these dead cells and making sure your skin is cleared with a good cleanser and an effective skin toner are the foundations of any good acne care program.
The sebaceous glands which reside near hair follicles under the skin are responsible for producing sebum which water proofs and protects the hair follicles as well as moisturizing skin. This substance is released through the pores and when these exits are blocked, blemishes, zits and even acne cysts can be the result.
Extra care should be taken to make sure your facial skin is clear before going to bed at night and that ALL your makeup has been removed. A good astringent works well for this or even cleansing the face with milk and fruit juices such as lemon and grapefruit which contain natural acids which exfoliate the skin.
Failure to properly maintain facial skin and keep the pores smaller in size and free of debris can be the difference in treating minor breakouts from time to time and needing advanced corrective skin care procedures to treat scarring and discoloration.
