Diet plans abound today. Sometimes the information you read in one plan will contradict what you read in another. Many of the plans can be effective in losing weight, if you have the determination and will power to stick with them. However, they may not be good advice for living healthy.
A factor that is more important than weight gain or loss is having a healthy lifestyle. A part of any healthy lifestyle is having a good and healthy diet. Part of that healthy diet is keeping everything in balance. Diet and exercise must be in balance or you will either gain or lose weight. You should also work to balance your portions of protein, dairy, vegetables, fruits and grains.
Water is necessary for life. Without water, scientists say there is no possibility for life on other planets. Many of us seem to forget the importance of water in our daily lives. We may shower or wash our hands, but do we drink enough water? We are told that we should have eight glasses every day. Still, many of us substitute a soda or even a beer when we are thirsty. Most of the nutrients our body needs from our food are water-soluble. We can never be properly nourished without plenty of plain water.
Balance those calories each day. Weight gain is caused by consuming too many. This weight gain can lead to more weight gain since it often hinders exercise and causes depression. If you do not eat enough calories, you loose weight, along with muscle and energy. Malnutrition is a danger if your diet is too low in calories.
You should be sure to get enough fruits as well as vegetables in your diet. They contain many of the vitamins that keep you healthy. Dark leafy vegetables are often overlooked, but are very good for you. Try to mix the colors, as differing colors of vegetables often indicate different vitamins that you need. Fruits can take the place of higher calorie deserts and candies, but still satisfy a sweet tooth.
Do not overdo the protein. Many people believe that protein is a healthy food, which it is, once again in moderation. Many high protein foods are also high in fat. A serving of protein is the size of a deck of cards, not a 16 or 24-ounce steak. Eating too much protein is difficult on the digestive system as well as the kidneys. Enjoy the protein, but once again enjoy it in moderation.
This brings us to fats. There is the right kind as well as the wrong kind of fats. Olive oil and nuts contain the correct fats that your body needs for absorbing vitamins. Many of our diets are have too much of the wrong type of fat. Overly processed snacks as well as much of our fast food is prepared using hydrogenated fats. We love the taste and will as large a portion as the restaurant serves. Our love of fat is a taste we have acquired. Eating a healthy diet with good fats will cause an adjustment ion our bodies as well as a healthier lifestyle.
Healthy living requires more than just a change in diet. Healthy living requires a change in lifestyle.
